Welcome
3/1/09 Hello everyone -
We made it through February at last! That's not to say that old man Winter is done with us but at least we can see the light at the end of the tunnel now. You may have noticed your houseplants are waking up and growing again. Fig trees have begun to put out a new flush of leaves. You can plant herb seeds and actually have them grow instead of just sitting there sulking.
To welcome the new month we have returned to our regular hours in the shop: Monday thru Saturday, 9am to 5pm. There are seeds to be started and soon there will be perennials to be potted up. Lots to do.
Workshops continue on the following Saturdays (beginning at 11am):
March 7 - Part one of vegetable gardening - Soil preparation and planting with Bruce Hoskins. Learn what to do to begin growing your own tastey veggies. Free workshop
March 21 - Part two of vegetable gardening - Growing and harvesting. The garden is planted, now what do I do? Learn what to do when and what problems to watch out for. Free workshop.
April 11 - Beginning Bonsai with Erine Glabeau of Entwood Bonsai Nursery - learn the origins of the ancient art of bonsai and create your own living work of art. There is a fee for this class.
Please call ahead to register so we know how much coffee to make!
If the weather is "iffy" call ahead to make sure we're still on for that day. "Bad weather" dates are the next Saturday.
One more piece of advice as we begin a new season (forgive me!) - If gardening seems like too much work and you don't look forward to the activity - DON'T DO IT! Strange advice coming from your local nursery and greenhouse, but life is too short. Do what makes you happy.
You will notice at the top of this page we are trying to entice you on to our email newsletter list. With the cost of conventional mail going up all the time we are trying to do as much as we can electronically. We will maintain our snail-mail list for those of you who prefer not to get your mail on line. We are just trying to save $$ wherever we can to keep costs and prices reasonable.
The "Greenhouse and Shop" pages will give you a general idea of the plants and products we have in stock and what's looking particularly nice right now.
So, look around, make yourself at home, then come and visit us at the shop. After all, it's hard to smell the flowers through the computer screen!
